TX HD-97: Guess What? We Won!

The results are in! Democrat Dan Barrett has won the special election to replace retiring Republican Representative Anna Mowery by a margin of 52.2%-47.8% against Republican Mark Shelton. This is a gain for the Democrats and gives Democrats a margin of 71-79 in the Texas State House, 5 AWAY FROM TAKING BACK THE MAJORITY!

This district gave Bush 61% in 2004 and just elected a Democrat to the State House. Texas Democrats won one special election for the State House in 2006 and five more in the November 2006 general election.

The final numbers were 5,365-4,913. Dan won on both election day and in early voting. The College Democrats of North Texas came out twice in October to help State-Rep. elect Barrett make it into the run off. Congratulations to anyone who helped with this as well as to Dan Barrett himself!

Onward to 2008!
