Thank you Sen. Gallegos!

Last year, 2007, Lt. Governor Dewhurst and the Republican majority in the State Senate and State House made Voter I.D. a priority in the Texas legislature. This bill would require any residents in Texas to bring forward a photo I.D. or 2 forms of non photo I.D. with them to the polls when they go vote. Women who just get married and have not updated their I.D.s would not be able to vote. Poor folks who do not have their I.D. on them, out of luck. The list goes on.

In the State Senate, the rules are that any eleven senators can place a hold on any bill and not allow it to pass, luckily there are eleven Democratic senators in the State Senate but all eleven had to be present at all times. State Senator Gallegos needed a liver biopsy last session and his doctors said he needed to leave and go home. He sacrificed his own personal health to prevent this bill form becoming law. The following video is his story.

Thank you Sen. Gallegos! Texas owes you a debt of gratitude.
